THIS YEAR'S AWARDEES

Maryanne Russell is a beloved member of the Loyola Institute for Spirituality community. As a graduate of LIS’s Ignatian Spirituality Formation Program, Maryanne has served in myriad capacities at LIS including as the spiritual companion for numerous retreatants Through the 9-month Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life (SEDL) retreat, a small group leader for the 5-week First Spiritual Exercises (FSE), coordinator and facilitator of our women’s retreat, facilitator for Companions on the Way, and facilitator for group supervision. Maryanne has been in parish ministry for over 35 years and currently serves as the Director of Evangelization and Stewardship at St. Brigid Parish in San Diego.

Rev. Agbonkhianmeghe E. Orobator, S.J. is dean and professor of theology at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. Dean Orobator grew up in Benin City, Nigeria, practicing traditional African religion. After visiting the local Jesuit parish as a teen for Easter vigil Mass, Dean Orobator became enamored with Catholicism and the Jesuit Order. He saw the works of the American Jesuits as fully devoted to the service of others, resonant of an African anthropology of Ubuntu that teaches “a person is a person through other persons.” He joined the Jesuits in 1986 and was ordained in 1998. Fluent in four languages, Dean Orobator received his Ph.D in theology and religious studies from the University of Leeds in England, his MBA from Georgetown University, and his licentiate in sacred theology from JST-SCU, from which he also received an honorary doctorate in 2012. He received a bachelor’s degree in theology from Hekima University College in Nairobi, Kenya, and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Institut de Philosophie Saint Pierre Canisius in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was previously provincial superior of the Jesuits of the Eastern Africa Province. He is an award-winning author of numerous books.

Daryl Grigsby is a practitioner and facilitator of Ignatian spirituality. He completed the 9-monthSpiritual Exercises in Daily Life retreat at Loyola Institute for Spirituality and completed a year-long Sabbatical Renewal Program at the Jesuit School of Theology (JST). Daryl has authored five books including, the most recent, ‘Catholics for the Common Good: An Eternal Offering’ by Paulist Press. Daryl is on the Board of Directors for Color Me Human: Nevada County, futureChurch, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, and Leadership Foundations, a faith-based organization serving those in need in cities around the world. He volunteers for Get on the Bus, a California program uniting children with their incarcerated parents. Daryl has a Master’s of Pastoral Studies from Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry. He is a retired Public works.
