Ignatian spiritual formation PROGRAM

REGISTRATION now open

God loves us and desires that we continually grow into who we are called to be. LIS offers a personally transformative experience through ISFP as a pathway to explore, discern, and develop our God-given gifts. This program is meant for anyone desiring a heightened self-awareness and spiritual foundation to serve others.

ABOUT the PROGRAM

  • The formation program consists of three parts - course work, Spiritual Exercises retreat, and a specialization path.

  • Courses can be taken individually without committing to the full Formation Program.

  • All ISFP courses for 2025-2026 will be held ONLINE.

  • Upon completion, a Certificate in Foundations of Ignatian Spirituality is given with a notation of your chosen specialized path.

  • Courses are a source of Continuing Enrichment Credit hours for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange.

  • The requirements can be completed over approximately 15 months if taken concurrently or at your own pace (2 years or more).

part ONE: courses (56 hours)

The courses and the Spiritual Exercises (Part 2) can be taken concurrently or in either order; however, both must be taken prior to enrolling in the specialized path (Part 3).

LEVEL 1 (32 hours)

LEVEL 2 (24 hours)

part TWO: spiritual exercises in daily life retreat (SEDL)

This 9-month 19th Annotation retreat can be taken concurrently with other courses depending on how concentrated one wishes the program to be. Click here for more information about SEDL. If you have already made a 19th Annotation retreat and do not wish to do it again, please submit this form. An interview will follow with one of our team to discuss your retreat experience and ensure that it falls within the requirements of our formation certificate.

part three: select your specialized path

As you near completion of parts 1 and 2, you should consider a specialized path as noted below. It is possible for both paths to be taken; however, each will require completion of its own practicum and project.

PATH I - ACCOMPANIMENT

PATH II - LEADERSHIP

This path prepares those who have a desire to companion others in the Spiritual Exercises. An additional course, as noted below (8 hrs), and a practicum and project are required.

This path helps identify qualities in yourself through the tenets of Ignatian leadership and explores the emergence of these values over time, and how they can be applied in everyday life. An additional course, as noted below (8 hrs), and a practicum and project are required.

certification

Upon completion, a certificate is given. This certification serves as confirmation that the participant has satisfactorily completed a minimum of 70+ hours of Ignatian formation in key areas of spirituality, methodology, and human development. Additionally, the Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life retreat is an experiential and formative 9-month retreat. It affords the retreatant over 200 hrs of reflective prayer, 36 weeks of one-on-one spiritual accompaniment, and 18 hrs of small group faith-sharing where listening, discernment and accompaniment skills are practiced.

LIS ASSOCIATES

Upon graduation, we invite you to consider sharing your gifts, talents, and training as a collaborator with LIS. Associates participate in our offerings as facilitators, spiritual companions, presenters, event volunteers, and hosts at various events.
