The Catholic Bible Institute (CBI-Orange) is a three-year program that involves a comprehensive study of the Sacred Scriptures, with particular focus on methods of biblical study, sharing and praying with scripture, and application of skills in Bible-study leadership. Courses may be taken individually or in a cohort for certification. 
 

YEAR ONE

(Fall 2019 – Spring 2020)

 

 Focus is on the New Testament, with study of the four Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Pauline Letters, Catholic Epistles, Book of Revelation, Non-canonical Writings, and New Testament Theology.

YEAR TWO 

(Fall 2020 – Spring 2021)

 

Provides an overview of the Hebrew Scriptures, with study of the following texts: Pentateuch/Torah, Historical Books, Prophetic Writings, Wisdom Literature, Deutero-canonical Writings, and Hebrew Theology.

YEAR THREE

(Fall 2021 – Spring 2022)

 

Combines instruction with a

Practicum that focuses on developing skills for working with small groups, with an emphasis on adult learning, facilitation skills, group process, Bible-study resources, and leadership training.

Program Goals

  • to grow in understanding and appreciation of the revealed Word of God.

  • to learn the principles of Catholic interpretation of the Sacred Scriptures.

  • to integrate Bible-study with Christian prayer and daily living.

  • to receive training for parish-based Bible study leadership.

what to expect:

  • Course materials are distributed at each meeting.

  • Those participating per semester or for certification are given a reading list to enhance learning.

  • Certificate participants are required to complete monthly papers.

  • Sessions are recorded - those registered by semester will have access to audio files.

  • While light refreshments are served throughout the day with snacks provided by participants, lunch is not provided. One hour is given as a lunch break and participants are welcome to bring lunch to enjoy on campus or at a nearby park, or to leave and procure lunch at local area restaurants.

  • Spring classes meet monthly on a Saturday from 8:30am-4:00pm at Rosary Academy in Fullerton, CA.

  • Beginning Fall 2020, classes will meet at Loyola Institute for Spirituality.

  • LIS is pleased to announce that CBI Year 2 will be taught by Dr. Daniel Smith-Christopher.
