Loyola Institute for Spirituality Seeks Dynamic Executive Director

Loyola Institute for Spirituality (LIS) seeks a new Executive Director to lead a vigorous program of contemporary spirituality for leadership in the church and society.  LIS accompanies people on their journey toward a life-giving relationship with God, self, and others, to help transform the world.

Founded in 1997 in Orange, California, LIS now provides many spiritual programs and services in English and Spanish at multiple locations throughout Southern California and beyond.  It is not a retreat center, as such.

The Executive Director’s responsibilities include:

  • Animating  a talented, progressive, current staff of 10:  five Jesuits, one Sister of St. Joseph,  and four lay people.

  • Furthering the spiritual formation of lay people in the tradition of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius with offerings both in English and Spanish.

  • Shaping the future of the Institute and taking it to the next level of lay, religious, and diaconal formation for the dioceses of Los Angeles, Orange, and other Western US  dioceses.

  • Collaborating with the Catholic bishop, pastors, deacons, and lay ecclesial leaders in the target dioceses.

  • Shaping an integrated, collaboration program between the staff and talented Associates, LIS graduates in the Exercises and in spiritual direction.

  • Supporting future growth in the LIS mission through the development of digital capacity: social media, web-based resources, and online educational/formational initiatives.

  • Working closely with a Board of Directors committed to the vision of a life-giving spirituality in a context of collaboration, ecumenism, and cultural diversity.

  • Laying the foundations, along with the Board of Directors, for a strong financial development program and to engage directly in fundraising.

The Successful Candidate will be Roman Catholic and have:

  • Made the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, be familiar with their dynamics in a modern context, and be able to envision other applications for today’s Church and world.

  • Experience in administration, budgeting, fundraising, and long-range planning.

  • Leadership capacities to work collaboratively with a talented staff.

  • A collaborative spirit to work closely with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and the Society of Jesus on the West Coast.

  • Bilingual capacity, though not required.

The Search will continue until a successful, qualified candidate is identified.  The current intended goal is to hire by June 1.  The new director would begin on July 1, 2018—with flexibility according to needs of successful candidate.  Please send a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to:
